Amre into Mumbai Indians Family

  • Lalchand Rajput, Coach of Mumbai Indians has stepped down from his post citing some personal reasons.
  • The only team riding with an Indian Coach, this time its going to be Pravin Amre.
  • He is the coach of Mumbai Ranji team
  • There were many professionals running behind for this job but finally it was given to Amre.
  • Only a few have made a hundred on debut in a Test match on foreign soil and for many it is a dream come true. Praveen Amre was one those rare breed of players who achieved this by making 103 against South Africa at Durban in 1992-93 under difficult conditions, for a struggling side and against an attack that included Donald, Pringle and McMillan.

New Zealand v India, 2nd Test, Napier, 5th day

New Zealand 619 for 8 (Ryder 201, Taylor 151, McCullum 115, Vettori 55, Franklin 52) drew with India 305 (Dravid 83, Laxman 76) and 476 for 4 (Gambhir 137, Laxman 124*, Tendulkar 64, Yuvraj 54*)
  • Laxman was in the middle walking the talk and helped India pull off a great escape with his 14th Test century.
  • Along with an epic from Gauti, the last of India's veteran trio had helped India inch their necks in front before Yuvraj Singh's carefree hand cracked a tired attack.
  • India's batting efforts in the second innings, spanning 180 overs, ensured a draw and a 1-0 lead going to Wellington Friday.

West Indies v England, 4th ODI, Bridgetown

England 136 for 1 (Strauss 79*) beat West Indies 239 for 9 (Bravo 69, Mascarenhas 3-26) by nine wickets - D/L method

  • Strauss seized on an unexpected opportunity to haul his side level in their ODI series against West Indies, with the decider still to come in St Lucia next week,as he defied his unglamorous reputation to crack 79 from just 61 balls in a rain-readjusted run-chase in Barbados.
  • Strauss's scintillating display included nine fours, four of which came in consecutive deliveries from Lionel Baker, and their second six of the series off Darren Sammy, as England easily hunted down their 20-over target of 135, after West Indies had earlier posted a competitive 50-over total of 239 for 9.

South Africa v Australia, 2nd Twenty20, Centurion

South Africa 156 for 5 (van der Merwe 48, Peterson 34, Harwood 2-21) beat Australia 139 for 8 (Hussey 27, Clarke 27, Botha 2-16) by 17 runs

  • South Africa continued to dominate the limited-overs formats.
  • After replacing Australia for top place in the 50-over rankings last year, South Africa now head to the World Twenty20 brimming with confidence after a second consecutive 20-over victory over Ricky Ponting's men, this time by 17 runs.

History by Brawn GP

  • The French Grand Prix in 1954 had a team new to Formula One racing finished one-two on their debut.
  • It was Juan Manuel Fangio and Karl Kling for Mercedes-Benz.
  • Today it was Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello for Brawn-Mercedes after an extraordinary race in Australia.
  • A late scrap for third ended in tears, with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica crashing out, ultimately handing the place to McLaren's Lewis Hamilton.
  • Earlier Trulli finished third but was given a penalty of 25 sec for overtaking Hamilton during the period of safety car, It ended him with 12th position.

New Zealand v India, 2nd Test, Napier, 4th day

India 305 and 252 for 2 (Gambhir 102*, Dravid 62, Tendulkar 58*) trail New Zealand 619 for 9 by 62 runs

  • Gambhir's unbeaten 102 was the pick of the day for India.
  • It was a tough, combative performance from India's batsmen while New Zealand were disciplined, rather than dangerous, and gave away only 205 runs in the day.
  • Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar weighed in with crucial innings, and the fact that New Zealand's only wicket today was because of an umpiring error was indicative of India's control.

New Zealand v India, 2nd Test, Napier, 3rd day

India 305 (Dravid 83, Laxman 76, Sachin 49) and 47 for 1 trail New Zealand 619 for 9 by 267 runs
  • NZL dominated the day, read a felt-penned placard on the grassy embankment at McLean Park.
  • Around those four words were 11 pink hearts, neatly and accurately cut out by some loving fan, with each of the New Zealand players' names loosely scribbled in the middle.
  • It aptly summarised the third day's play for the home side - a wee bit ragged, a lot tidier, and full of spirit.
  • THE WALL fought for sometime and ended up with a 83

West Indies v England, 3rd ODI, Barbados

West Indies 117 for 2 (Gayle 80) beat England 117 (Bravo 4-19, Edwards 3-28) by eight wickets - D/L method

  • Chris Gayle heaped ever more crippling levels of opprobrium onto the shoulders of England's listless cricketers, as he pounded an astounding tally of five fours and eight sixes in 43 balls, to power his side to a brilliant eight-wicket victory in the third ODI at Bridgetown.
  • Talk of impending strikes have been circulating the Caribbean in recent days, but today it was England who failed to turn up for duty, as they crumbled for 117 before being bludgeoned to defeat in just 14.4 overs.

South Africa v Australia, 1st T20I, Johannesburg

South Africa 168 for 6 (Morkel 37, Boucher 36*, Hussey 2-21, Geeves 2-35) beat Australia 166 for 7 (Hussey 88*, Warner 38, Peterson 3-30, Parnell 2-29)
by four wickets

  • A late fightback from Mark Boucher and Albie Morkel steered South Africa from the brink of oblivion to a stunning four-wicket victory over Australia in the first Twenty20 international in Johannesburg.
  • The hosts appeared to be in dire straits after losing five early wickets, but Boucher and Morkel belted 36 runs from Australia's 16th and 17th overs - including 21 from James Hopes' final six deliveries - to turn the match on its head.
